South Cotabato State College marked the nationwide observance of Indigenous Peoples Month and the 28th Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) Commemoration through a meaningful celebration that paid tribute to the creativity, resilience, and enduring heritage of Indigenous communities. Held on October 24, 2025, at the SCSC Gymnasium, the event served as a vibrant platform to honor and showcase the cultural expressions, traditions, and identity of Indigenous tribes from the SOCCSKSARGEN Region.

The program featured a variety of cultural presentations, booth exhibits, and traditional showcases that reflected the deep-rooted connection of Indigenous peoples to their culture, environment, and community life. Colorful performances and displays of indigenous craftsmanship highlighted the richness of cultural diversity and its vital role in shaping the nationโ€™s identity.

A highlight of the celebration was the message of Maโ€™am Darlyn S. Catuyan, MPA, an esteemed IP advocate and champion from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). In her address, she emphasized the significance of preserving Indigenous identity amid the challenges of modernization and encouraged the youth to play an active role in promoting and protecting ancestral heritage. She stressed that empowering young people is essential to ensuring that the legacy of Indigenous peoples continues to thrive.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Edward Lovell B. Brillantes, College President, together with Dr. Joebert C. Legreso, Vice President for Academic Affairs, along with the faculty, staff, and students of SCSC, all demonstrating their support for the advocacy of cultural inclusivity and respect.

Ngag Jr., the celebration carried the theme โ€œWeaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development.โ€ The activity underscored the importance of unity, inclusivity, and respect for cultural heritage as key elements of sustainable progress.

This celebration served as a powerful reminder of South Cotabato State Collegeโ€™s enduring commitment to honor and uplift Indigenous communities, whose traditions, knowledge, and creativity remain vital threads in the rich cultural tapestry of the institution and the country.
