SCSC Preservice Teachers Join PAFTE-RXII Seminar on AI, Positive Discipline, and Restorative Practices
 
													Preservice teachers from the Institute of Teacher Education (ITED) of South Cotabato State College (SCSC) actively participated in the Regional Seminar-Workshop organized by the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE) Region XII, held on October 17, 2025, at the Gymnasium, Notre Dame of Tacurong College.
With the theme “Building Smart and Caring Classrooms: Empowering Future Educators with AI, Positive Discipline, and Restorative Practices,” the activity aimed to holistically prepare student-teachers for the realities of 21st-century education. The event focused on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and innovative technologies in the classroom while promoting positive discipline and restorative practices to foster inclusive, compassionate, and resilient learning environments.
The seminar featured DR. RODY P. GARCIA, MDM, JD as keynote speaker, who emphasized the vital role of educators in harnessing technology responsibly and creating classrooms that balance academic rigor with empathy and care.
Representing South Cotabato State College, the delegation was led by Dr. May Rose E. Macrohon, Ms. Nydie D. Brillantes, Engr. Raniel Ojanola, Engr. Maria Gretle Joy Sebastian, and Dr. Janeth Idallo, along with 32 preservice teachers from the Institute of Teacher Education.
 
													Throughout the sessions, participants were equipped with knowledge and strategies to:
- Utilize AI and digital tools to personalize and enhance teaching-learning processes;
- Cultivate self-regulation, empathy, and responsibility through proactive, positive discipline methods; and
- Strengthen classroom communities by adopting restorative approaches that promote peace, respect, and collaboration.
This meaningful engagement reinforces SCSC’s commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly: SDG 4: Quality Education – promoting inclusive, equitable, and innovative learning; SDG 5: Gender Equality – empowering future teachers to create classrooms that champion respect and equal opportunity; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – integrating technology and innovation in teacher education; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – ensuring equal access to quality training for all preservice teachers; SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions – fostering restorative classroom practices rooted in empathy and justice; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – strengthening linkages between PAFTE and higher education institutions like SCSC to enhance educational development.
 
													 
													Through participation in initiatives like this, South
Cotabato State College continues to cultivate globally competent,
values-driven, and future-ready educators committed to sustainable and
inclusive nation-building.
