As part of its commitment to sustainable agricultural development, South Cotabato State College (SCSC), through its Extension Services Unit under the Greener Growth Program, produced and distributed natural foliar fertilizer to farmers in Surallah, South Cotabato. In partnership with the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA), more than 600 gallons of foliar fertilizer were formally turned over to benefit almost 250 farmers, demonstrating the institutionโ€™s strong role in advancing community-based agricultural initiatives. This activity was spearheaded by Sir Nikki C. Cordero, MAST, Director for Extension Services, with the full support of College President Dr. Edward Lovell B. Brillantes.

Formulated from natural inputs, the SCSC-produced foliar fertilizer is designed to improve nutrient absorption, enhance soil fertility, and strengthen crop resilience while minimizing the negative impacts of chemical-based inputs. By lowering farmersโ€™ production costs and promoting sustainable farming methods, this initiative directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger, ensuring food security and improved nutrition, while also contributing to SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by encouraging environmentally responsible agricultural practices.

The Greener Growth Program of SCSC bridges academic research with practical applications for the farming sector. Through innovations such as natural fertilizers, the program promotes ecological balance and soil health, contributing to SDG 15: Life on Land, which emphasizes protecting ecosystems and biodiversity. Beyond agricultural benefits, this initiative also highlights the value of collaborationโ€”through the leadership of Municipal Agriculturist Maโ€™am Josephine Portogalete and the initiative of Mrs. Cherie De Castroโ€”in realizing SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, where government, academe, and farmers work hand-in-hand for sustainable progress.
