50 Golden Years: SCSC Honors Legacy, Celebrates Growth, and Builds the Future

South Cotabato State College (SCSC) marked a historic milestone on July 1, 2025, as it celebrated its 50th Founding Anniversary with the theme “Golden Years of Growth: Nurturing Agriculture and Innovation for Tomorrow’s Generations.” Formerly known as Surallah National Agricultural School (SUNAS), the institution honored its roots while showcasing the progress it has achieved through five decades of dedicated public service and transformative education.

The celebration began with a solemn Thanksgiving Ceremony, where the college community gathered in gratitude for the journey that started in 1975. Following the ceremony was a vibrant motorcade that echoed the pride and unity of the institution throughout the municipality of Surallah. The energy and anticipation for the golden celebration were palpable.
One of the most significant highlights of the day was the groundbreaking ceremony for two major infrastructure projects: the new 3-storey dormitory and the Phase 2 construction of the Institute of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Management (IBEM) building. These projects symbolize the college’s unwavering commitment to improving student services and academic facilities. Attended by the members of the Board of Trustees, college officials, and partner agencies, the ceremonies reflected the strong support that continues to shape SCSC’s future.

After the groundbreaking rites, a fellowship luncheon was held in honor of SUNAS retirees, who were warmly welcomed back to their academic home. Their presence brought back memories of the early years of the institution and reminded everyone of the sacrifices and dedication that laid the foundation for what SCSC has become today. The event was also an opportunity to strengthen relationships with partner institutions and guests who have supported the college’s growth through the years.
In the afternoon, a symbolic tree planting activity took place inside the campus. It served not only as a gesture of environmental advocacy but also as a living representation of growth, continuity, and hope. Just as trees take root and thrive through care and time, the college continues to grow, guided by its mission and vision for future generations.

To bring joy and unity to the celebration, a series of recreational and community-building activities followed. Students, faculty, and staff participated in traditional Filipino games such as Carlos games, sports events like basketball and volleyball, and a lively videoke contest that showcased the vibrant spirit of the SCSC community. These activities reflected the culture of collaboration, fun, and inclusivity that have always been part of the college’s character.
The celebration concluded with a dove releasing ceremony — a solemn yet inspiring moment that represented peace, unity, and a hopeful beginning to the next chapter of the college’s story. As the doves soared into the sky, so did the aspirations of SCSC to continue leading in agriculture, education, and innovation for the next 50 years and beyond.
The 50th Founding Anniversary of South Cotabato State College was more than a celebration of its past. It was a clear declaration of its readiness to move forward, to dream bigger, and to remain grounded in its purpose of serving the people of South Cotabato and the nation through quality and transformative education.
