SURALLAH, South Cotabato — Students of South Cotabato State College (SCSC) filled the SCSC Gymnasium as Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Region XII Director Atty. Keysie M. Gomez delivered a keynote address on student rights and legal responsibilities during the Supreme Student Council’s “Know Your Rights Campaign” on October 28, 2026.

Organized by the SCSC Supreme Student Council (SSC), led by President Niel Bert C. Cosio, the initiative carried the theme “Bantay Karapatan, Mulat na Kaisipan: Empowering Students to Stand Out, Speak Out and Secure a Safe Campus.” The event aimed to heighten campus rights awareness and encourage students to oppose injustice.

During her address, Atty. Gomez outlined basic rights guaranteed to students, including access to quality education, guidance and counseling, official academic records, participation in student publications, peaceful assembly, freedom of expression and association, and due process.

She emphasized that these protections correspond with key responsibilities, specifically maintaining academic integrity, practicing discipline, and engaging in civic participation. She also urged students to seek institutional guidance when necessary and utilize their college years for skill development.

The activity was supported by top college administrators, including SCSC President Dr. Edward Lovell B. Brillantes, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Joebert C. Legreso, and Legal Officer Atty. Maria Gemma J. Oquendo.
