SCSC Joins Mindanao Bamboost Forum: The South Cotabato Experience, Reaffirming Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability through Bamboo
South Cotabato State College (SCSC), a proud member of the South Cotabato Bamboo Industry Development Council (SCBIDC), participated in the Mindanao Bamboost Forum: The South Cotabato Experience held on August 7, 2026, at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill, South Cotabato. Spearheaded by the Base Bahay Foundation, Inc.—a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing resilient, affordable, and environmentally sustainable housing through engineered bamboo technologies—and the SCBIDC, in partnership with the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XII, the Mahintana Foundation, Inc., the Dole Philippines, Inc., and the ChildFund Philippines, Inc., the forum gathered government and academic leaders, architecture and engineering professionals, and farmers to strengthen the bamboo industry and promote sustainable construction in Mindanao.
Bringing together experts and stakeholders across Mindanao, the forum highlighted bamboo’s growing role as a climate-resilient construction material and a catalyst for green economic development. Participants gained valuable insights from technical presentations on scalable bamboo-based technologies, strengthening the bamboo value chain, engineered bamboo innovations, resilient bamboo buildings, and resilient architectural design.
As part of the forum’s exhibit, SCSC proudly showcased its innovative BambooPel (bamboo paper) and PalayPel (rice straw paper), products of student research initiatives that transforms locally available bamboo fibers and agricultural waste into eco-friendly paper. The exhibit demonstrated the versatility of bamboo beyond construction and reflected commitment of various agencies to sustainable research, innovation, and environmental stewardship. Alongside fellow SCBIDC members, SCSC highlighted how academic research can contribute to value-added bamboo products that support the circular economy and local livelihood opportunities.
The event concluded with a ceremonial signing of a manifestation of support, symbolizing the collective commitment of stakeholders to promote bamboo development in the Philippines.
Together with its partners in the SCBIDC, SCSC, headed by President Edward Lovell B. Brillantes, PhD, continues to champion bamboo as a resource for innovation, resilience, and inclusive development, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for South Cotabato and the whole of Mindanao.
