In a bold stride toward strengthening its research and publication culture, the South Cotabato State College (SCSC) recently completed the โBeyond the Manuscript: A Faculty Writeshop on Scholarly Publishingโ last March 5โ6, 2026, at the scenic Sa Balai Lake View Resort.
ย
The two-day capacity-building activity, organized by the Research and Publication Office (RPO) headed by Director Dexter C. Necor, PhD, brought together over 40 faculty members and staff for an intensive collaborative workshop designed to transform research outputs into publishable scholarly works.
ย
As part of the technical training, the writeshop also aimed to cultivate leadership in research and publication to equip participants with the skills to navigate publication process and journal selection, and uphold ethical publishing standards.
ย
At the heart of the initiative were three distinguished resource persons from the University of Southern Mindanao, Dr. Angelo R. Agduma, Dr. Krizler C. Tanalgo, and Mr. Asraf K. Lidasan, each bringing a wealth of editorial expertise and an impressive track record of publications in high-impact international journals. Dr. Krizler centered his discussion on the essential components of a publishable research paper, highlighting clarity in the title, objectives, coherence in structure, and the importance of aligning manuscripts with the standards and scope of target journals. Dr. Agduma emphasized responsible research conduct and ethical considerations in academic publishing and discussed issues such as authorship responsibility, plagiarism prevention, and the importance of identifying and avoiding predatory journals. Mr. Lidasan introduced practical digital tools such as Zotero that support citation and reference management, equipping participants with strategies that enhance efficiency and accuracy in scholarly writing.
ย
A key highlight of the program was the interactive writeshop and presentation of outputs, where participants engaged in scholarly dialogue and received constructive feedback on their developing manuscripts. This collaborative exchange fostered a supportive environment for refining research outputs and strengthening the quality of academic publications produced by the institution.
With the active support of Dr. Edward Lovell B. Brillantes, the SCSC SUC President I, the activity reflects the institutionโs continuing commitment to strengthen the scholarly writing skills of SCSC faculty, enabling researchers to transform their studies into well-developed and publication-ready manuscripts.

The writeshop also encourages participants to actively pursue publication and share their research with wider academic audiences, thereby creating broader impact and contributing to national and global scholarly conversations. Through this initiative, SCSC continues to inspire a culture of excellence in research and publication, empowering faculty members to produce high-quality scholarly work that advances knowledge and benefits the broader community.
