SCSC Advances Future-Ready Institutional Transformation Through VISIONCRAFT 2025
A four-day foresight and strategic planning workshop guiding the college toward sustainable, collaborative, and future-responsive development.
South Cotabato State College (SCSC), in collaboration with the Philippine Futures Thinking Society (PhilFutures), successfully conducted VISIONCRAFT 2025: Advancing Foresight for Strategic and Sustainable Futures from November 3–6, 2025. The workshop brought together students, academic leaders, faculty members, office heads, and administrative personnel to establish a shared foundation for shaping the institution’s long-term direction through strategic foresight and collaborative governance.
The first phase and 1st day of the workshop were held virtually via Zoom Communications Inc. The session opened with the participation and support of Senator Pia S. Cayetano and Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian, recognized champions of futures thinking and education reform in the Philippine Senate. Senator Cayetano, through her leadership as Chair of the Senate Committee on SDGs, Innovation, and Futures Thinking, emphasized the role of State Universities and Colleges in cultivating future-ready communities and systems. Senator Gatchalian highlighted the importance of ensuring that education remains responsive to rapid changes in technology and workforce landscapes, reinforcing the need for anticipatory academic leadership.
College President Dr. Edward Lovell B. Brillantes underscored the significance of adopting foresight not only as a planning framework but as a shared institutional mindset. He emphasized that VISIONCRAFT stands as an integral step toward building a culture of innovation and sustainability within SCSC’s academic and administrative operations.
A provocation session was then led by Mr. Emmanuel “Manny” De Guia, Resident Futurist of the Senate Committee on SDGs, Innovation, and Futures Thinking. His session introduced strategic foresight as a discipline of analyzing change, examining emerging signals, and developing institutional resilience in uncertain environments.
On the 2nd day of the online session, the workshop continued with facilitated engagements by PhilFutures Fellow, Ms. Jalaine Joyce V. Malabanan, who guided participants through visioning exercises, VMOKRAPI alignment, institutional scanning, and scenario-building activities. These sessions allowed participants to articulate the institution’s current realities and explore multiple possible pathways for its future development.
The second phase of the workshop was held onsite at Fortune Fields, Banga, South Cotabato. The third day began with Opening Remarks from Former CHED Commissioner and PhilFutures Senior Fellow, Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, followed by the Opening Message of President Brillantes. Their messages emphasized the responsibility of higher education institutions to adopt foresight to remain adaptive, community-rooted, and strategically aligned.
Dr. Darilag then facilitated the session on Key Result Areas and Performance Indicators (KRAPIs) and the McKinsey 7S Framework. Participants worked in clusters representing Administration, Instruction, Research and Extension, and Student Services. The workshop enabled the teams to assess organizational alignment, clarify functional linkages, and identify strategic directions that support future institutional sustainability.
On the fourth day, Former CHED Commissioner and PhilFutures Senior Fellow, Dr. Ruperto S. Sangalang, guided the institution through a reflective process of re-envisioning its institutional identity and aspirations. This session emphasized that an institutional vision must evolve with community needs and the long-term responsibilities of public service. The workshop concluded with PATRES Operational Planning led by Mr. Lui Joshua S. Cuadra, where clusters translated foresight insights into structured action plans, implementation timelines, and coordination mechanisms.
Throughout the four-day process, the workshop fostered collaborative learning, thoughtful analysis, and strategic alignment. Participants engaged in collective reflection and planning, reinforcing the understanding that SCSC is shaping not only the future it anticipates but the future it is committed to leading.
VISIONCRAFT 2025 concludes as a meaningful step in strengthening SCSC’s direction toward a future-ready, collaborative, and sustainability-driven institution. The work now continues beyond the workshop. In the coming weeks, the teams will reconvene online for the presentation of their consolidated outputs, followed by the refinement and detailing of the institutional strategic plan. The final SUC Strategic Plan will then be submitted after the set completion period, marking the full realization of this foresight-driven planning process.
